world map

Program Overview

Located in the in the heart of a booming Asia-Pacific region, Singapore is the perfect 'soft landing' as it is a predominantly English-speaking environment.  With over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students and its Undergraduate Research Experience on Campus (URECA), NTU offers an amazing experience.

Singapore consists of the main island and some 60 small islands. With its strategic geographical location, good infrastructure and a sound political climate, the Republic has emerged as an important regional center for trade, communications, tourism and banking. Despite rapid growth and soaring skyscrapers, Singapore remains one of the cleanest, greenest and safest cities in the world.

NTU is a research-intensive university with globally acknowledged strengths in science and engineering.  Drexel's exchange program with NTU allows Drexel students to study at one of the top universities in Asia becoming fully immersed in the education, culture and daily life of both Singapore and NTU.

  • 3.0 minimum GPA
  • No language requirement
  • Sophomore, Pre-Junior, or Junior

Academics

Course Availability
Use the Course Catalog to search for courses offered at NTU.  All classes at Nanyang Tech are taught in English and there is no foreign language requirement.

Course Equivalencies
This spreadsheet is a historical list of pre-approved courses Drexel students have taken at NTU before. Students can choose to take courses from this list, but there is no guarantee that these courses will be offered in the future.

Students will need to get courses approved by the appropriate department for each course they plan to take at NTU if the course is not on the course equivalency spreadsheet (linked above).  For example, if you want to take a sociology course at NTU for Drexel credit, its equivalent must be pre-approved by the Sociology Department at Drexel.

Grading
Students are taught and graded by Singaporean faculty at NTU. Grades are noted as "CR/NCR" on their transcript and will NOT affect their GPA. In order to receive CR, students must earn a "C" or above at the host institution. Students must be a full-time student at the host institution while also taking the equivalent of a full-time load at Drexel.

Program Calendar

NTU operates on a semester calendar. Drexel students will need to work closely with the study abroad office, their academic advisor and the co-op office to determine how best plan their study abroad experience.  The study abroad office urges you to begin planning 12-18 months in advance.

Semester 1 Dates and Itinerary (fall term)
Program Start Date Early August
Program End Date Early December

Students will need to leave their spring/summer co-op 6-8 weeks early in order to arrive in Singapore in time for NTU's Semester 1.

Semester 2 Dates and Itinerary (winter term)
Program Start Date Early January
Program End Date Early May

Students will need to begin their spring/summer co-op 6 weeks late and will need to find their own co-op.

Housing

Students can choose to live in on-campus at NTU or off-campus during the study portion of their program. The Study Abroad Office recommends students apply for on-campus accommodations during their time in Singapore. More information about living in Singapore can be found here.

Visa

Students will need to obtain a "Student Pass" (i.e. student visa) upon entry. All visa processing takes place in Singapore. NTU will apply for the student visa on your behalf.
