GE3: France, Universite Technologique de Troyes (UTT)
The Global Engineering Education Exchange (GE3) is an international exchange program for all College of Engineering, iSchool and Biomedical Engineering majors. The program allows Drexel students to study in one of 9 countries overseas, fully immersed into the education, culture and daily life of their host country. This is a fantastic opportunity to perfect your French language skills, make new friends and explore your academic interests from a French perspective.
For more information on the GE3 program options in France visit: http://www.iie.org/programs/global-e3/.
- 3.0 minimum GPA
- Prior study of French language
- Sophomore status or higher
Most French schools run on a semester system with the first semester running from October-February and the second semester running from February-June. Frequently there is the possibility of an intensive French course before the beginning of the first semester during the month of September.
Students should prepare to make adjustments and be flexible in fitting this program into their Drexel schedule. Due to the need for cycle adjustments, students should begin planning 12-18 months in advance.
Course Availability
UTT - Course Equivalents: Lists of all host university courses that have been equated to Drexel courses. They serve as a guide to help students plan their term in France. If there are courses that you would like to take that are not listed, you will need to get equivalents approved by the appropriate department. For example, if you want to take a sociology course for Drexel credit, the sociology department at Drexel must pre- approve the course.
Most if not all course work is taught in French. The language requirement is FREN 310. Students who have completed FREN 203 prior to fall term 2016 are waived from FREN 310 requirement. Students should consider taking more language courses during their freshman summer vacation term or on campus during their co-op terms in order to advance their language skills more quickly. For more information please contact
Modern Languages Department at 215-895-5816.
Grading
Students are taught by French faculty at their host university. Grades are noted as credit/no credit (CR/NCR) on their transcript and will NOT affect their GPA. In order to receive CR students must earn a "C" or above. The goal is to be a full-time student at the host institution while also taking the equivalent of a full-time load at Drexel. A full course load at a French school is between 20-30 ECTS credits per semester.
