world map

Program Overview

University College Cork (UCC) is a large research university located in Cork, Ireland. It is ranked 3rd in Ireland, and 230th in the world.

Cork is Ireland’s second largest city, and the university is located in the greater metropolitan area. It has a population of about 300,000, and the university has about 17,000 students. As a small cosmopolitan city, Cork is easily accessible, and the campus is in walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and nightlife.

This program is open to all majors, and is a particularly great option for engineering students. The UCC Exchange program completely immerses Drexel students into Irish education and culture as you take classes with the local Irish and international students.

University College Cork is Ireland’s leading research institute. It was founded in 1845, and is one of the oldest universities in Ireland. UCC has four colleges - Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences; Business and Law; Science, Engineering and Food Science; and Medicine and Health.  It has been named “University of the Year” 3 times by the Sunday Times.

UCC is located in southern Ireland, about 3 hours from Dublin. The campus is green, and surrounded by stone buildings and riverside gardens, adding a unique charm to the university setting.

Academics

Course Availability
Course Catalog: Use this to search coursework offered at UCC. Called the "Directory of Modules" in Ireland.

Course Equivalencies
Course Equivalents: This spreadsheet is a historical list of pre-approved courses Drexel students have received approval or taken at UCC before. Students can choose to take courses from this list, but there is no guarantee that these courses will be offered in the future. Course Approvals: Students will need to get courses approved by the appropriate department for each course they plan to take at UCC. For example, if you want to take a sociology course at UCC for Drexel credit, its equivalent must be pre-approved by the Sociology Department at Drexel.

Grading
Students are taught and graded by Irish faculty at UCC. Grades are noted as "CR/NCR" on their transcript and will NOT affect their GPA. In order to receive CR, students must earn a "C" or above at the host institution. Students must be a full-time student at the host institution while also taking the equivalent of a full-time load at Drexel.
